Streamwood man charged with possession of child pornography

A 20-year-old Streamwood man is charged with possession of child pornography following an investigation by the Cook County sheriff's office and the Cook County Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.

Wilmer Alejandro Cruz was arrested Wednesday at his home on the 0-100 block of Ascot Lane where investigators also recovered a phone with more than 200 images and videos of children as young as 3-years old, authorities said.

Cruz was arraigned today at the Rolling Meadows courthouse where his bail was set at $20,000. He has since been released from custody after posting the required 10% bond amount.

Investigators at Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart's office said they received a tip about Cruz's activities from the task force and opened an investigation they said showed him viewing and downloading various images through mobile phone apps.

His next court date is unknown.
