Bail set for Addison man accused of armed robbery, battery on Halloween

Bail was set at $500,000 Thursday for an Addison man accused of stealing from a car full of people as they left a Halloween party.

Lenny Ramirez, 23, of the 100 block of North Lincoln Avenue, would have to post 10% as bond to be released pending trial, according to a news release from the DuPage County state's attorney's office.

Ramirez was charged with one count of armed robbery with a firearm and two counts of aggravated battery.

Authorities said that as several people tried leave early Oct. 31 from a parking lot on North Swift Road, another car blocked them in. Ramirez and an accomplice approached the car, opened the front passenger's-side door and pulled an occupant out, the news release said.

The accomplice put a handgun to the driver's head and said, "Give me everything. Don't move," according to the news release. The two men stole about $800 from the driver, according to the news release

Another passenger was struck several times by Ramirez and the accomplice as they stole his phone and wallet, the news release said. Ramirez then entered the car through the passenger's-side door and began punching the other occupants, authorities said.

After Ramirez and his accomplice fled, the victims followed them, the news release said. Ramirez fired his handgun, striking one of the occupants in the leg as well as hitting the car several times, authorities said.

Addison police responded to Army Trail and Swift roads after a report that shots had been fired at 2:13 a.m. Officers found two spent casings.

Ramirez was arrested Tuesday. His arraignment is scheduled for Dec. 1.
