Crystal Lake apartment fire causes $100,000 in damage
No injuries were reported following an apartment fire Thursday in Crystal Lake that caused more than $100,000 in damage.
Crystal Lake Fire Department officials said firefighters were called to the four-unit apartment building on the 300 block of Lake Street just after 6:15 p.m.
Residents of the building had been alerted to a fire on the second floor of the building by a smoke detector.
All residents were able to escape the building safely before firefighters arrived.
Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy smoke and fire on the top floor of the two-story building, with the fire contained to a bedroom of one of the units.
The fire was extinguished within 15 minutes.
All four units were declared uninhabitable.
The American Red Cross is assisting residents in finding alternative housing, fire officials said.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
