Arres named Naperville police chief

Jason Arres, who has led the Naperville Police Department in an interim role since Bob Marshall retired in July, has been named the city's next police chief.

The decision was announced Monday after a three-month national search that included a consulting firm and numerous panel interviews involving city leaders. Arres, a 20-year veteran of the Naperville Police Department, will be sworn in on Nov. 10.

"It truly is the greatest honor of my professional career to be chosen as Naperville's next police chief," Arres said in a statement, "and I look forward to carrying on the level of excellence past leaders have set for this organization."

Arres began his career with Naperville as a patrol officer in 2001. After serving in numerous departments - including as an undercover agent for the Special Enforcement Unit, a detective in the Intelligence Unit and a member of the department's Special Response Team - Arres was promoted to deputy chief in 2017 and led the investigations and patrol divisions.

Arres holds a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics from Northern Illinois University and a master's degree in public safety administration from Lewis University. He's also a graduate of the FBI National Academy.

"I look forward to the opportunities and challenges this job presents," Arres said, "and I pledge to do everything in my power to successfully lead this department and this community safely into the future."
