Wheaton man accused in mail theft scheme

A Wheaton man is one of 11 people charged in a mail theft scheme, including seven former postal employees.

Federal prosecutors said 23-year-old Tramont Miller is charged with conspiring to steal mail. Nine others face the same charges, while an 11th person is charged with possessing and receiving stolen mail.

Of the others charged, seven are Chicago residents, one is from Willowbrook, one is from Indiana and one is from Georgia.

Prosecutors said the defendants were charged as part of an ongoing federal investigation that has netted multiple arrests of other former postal employees.

The defendants are accused of stealing credit cards and other financial information.

The former postal employees worked either in Chicago or at a sorting facility in Palatine, prosecutors said.
