Wheaton Park District board looks to fill vacant commissioner seat

The Wheaton Park District Board is seeking applicants to fill an open seat created by the resignation of Commissioner Kevin Fahey.

The board formally declared the vacancy Wednesday. Vacancies are filled by appointment with a majority vote of the remaining board members.

Applicants must be registered voters who have lived within Wheaton Park District boundaries for no less than a year.

The selected candidate will serve the balance of a two-year term until the next election in April 2023.

To apply, submit a statement of interest, resume and a summary of relevant qualifications to Executive Director Mike Benard at mbenard@wheatonparks.org by Oct. 13.

After evaluating applications, the board will interview finalists. Commissioners will vote to appoint Fahey's replacement at a public board meeting. The board has not yet set a firm date for completing the process but expects an appointment will be made before the end of the year.
