Man wanted on attempted murder charge escapes capture at jail facility, remains at large

A Zion man wanted on an attempted murder charge stemming from a shooting at a McHenry intersection last month remains at large after fleeing Lake County's Community Based Correctional Center on Wednesday.

Deontae Wade, 26, appeared at the center, a branch of the county jail, about 9:20 a.m. Wednesday for the removal of an electronic monitoring device he was wearing for an unrelated case, authorities said.

Just before he arrived, correctional officers learned Wade was wanted on warrant for the Aug, 29 shooting, Lake County sheriff's Lt. Christopher Covelli said.

Officers attempted to take Wade into custody, but he escaped their grasp and fled the building, officials said.

Numerous Lake County sheriff's deputies, detectives, members of a special investigations group and a tactical response team searched for Wade until early Thursday, Covelli said. The sheriff's office now is working with regional and federal partners to find him, he added

Authorities believe Wade likely was able call a friend or family member for a ride out of the area.

Anyone who sees him should dial 911. Anyone who knows Wade's whereabouts is asked to call the Lake County sheriff's office at (847) 377-4000 or leave an anonymous tip with Lake County Crime Stoppers at (847) 662-2222 or www.lakecountycrimestoppers.com.

The attempted murder charge stems from a midday shooting Aug. 29 at Route 31 and Bull Valley Road that left more than 50 shell casings at the scene. Authorities said people in two vehicle were involved in the gunfire. No injuries were reported, but a vehicle was struck.

Also charged with attempted murder is Dante L. Terrell Jr. of Zion, who was taken into custody within hours of the shooting. Terrell, 29, is being held in the McHenry County jail on $50,000 bail.
