Smoke damage estimated at $150,000+ in Vernon Hills house fire Sunday

No injuries were reported after fire broke out Sunday evening in a Vernon Hills home.

The Lincolnshire Riverwoods Fire Protection District responded to the two-story, single-family residence on the 300 block of Saddleback Road about 7:15 p.m., Battalion Chief Steve McCaughey said.

No fire or smoke was visible on arrival, as the blaze was in the basement of the house, authorities said. Within a half-hour, the fire was under control.

Though the fire was contained to the basement, damages are estimated between $150,000 and $170,000 due to smoke, McCaughey said. The house is not inhabitable.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
