Mundelein Community Days features family fun, food, fireworks

Mundelein's Community Days festival returns with all of the favorites — a carnival, fireworks, parade, food, music, games, kids' activities and more.

The festival will take place Friday, July 2, through Monday, July 5, at Kracklauer Park, 116 N. Lake St. Admission is free. For details and a complete schedule, visit www.mundelein.org/community/community-days-2021 or call (847) 949-3223.

Festival highlights include:

• Carnival: Sponsored by American Legion Post 857, the carnival is open from 4 to 10:30 p.m. Friday, 2 to 11 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, and 2 to 8 p.m. Monday.

• Entertainment: A variety of entertainment is planned. Headliners include Serendipity at 8:30 p.m. Saturday, Brushville at 8:30 p.m. Sunday, and Bella Cain at 6 p.m. Monday.

• Car show: Check out classic cars and other styles from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday in the Santa Maria West Lot.

• Parades: At 9 a.m. Saturday, there will be a pet parade and cute pet tricks. The main parade, with the theme “Salute to America's Heroes,” kicks off on Hawley Street at 2 p.m. Monday.

• Mundelein Munch: Local restaurants and vendors will be selling food from noon to 11 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and noon to 8 p.m. Monday. They will include Bill's Pizza, Brothers BBQ, Buddyz Pizzeria, El Barrio Restaurant, El Campeon, Lee Concessions, Los Magueyes Mexican Grill, Luigi's Ristorante Italiano, Mundelein Dairy Queen, Smokin' BBQ on 45, Taco & Burrito Express and Tamales Diana.

• For the kids: Kids' activities and entertainment will include pony rides, a petting zoo, reptiles, police K-9 demonstrations, fire engine rides, a juggler/stilt walker, balloon twister, magician, caricature artist and more.

• Fireworks: The show will start at 9:30 p.m. Sunday.

• Run: The Freedom Classic 5K takes place at 8 a.m. Monday.

• Games: Bags and horseshoe tournaments take place Saturday afternoon; bingo is from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday in the main tent.

• Museum opening: The Mundelein Heritage Museum grand opening celebration will be noon to 4 p.m. Saturday at the museum, 601 E. Noel Drive.
