Authorities identify Wauconda man killed in motorcycle crash

Lake County authorities have identified the Wauconda man killed early Sunday when the motorcycle he was driving went off the road and hit a traffic light pole in Fremont Township.

Jeffrey Thompson, 30, died from multiple blunt force injuries suffered in the crash at Route 176 and Fairfield Road, just east of Wauconda, according to preliminary examination results released Monday by the Lake County Coroner's Office.

According to the Lake County Sheriff's Office, Thompson was driving a Yamaha motorcycle at a high rate of speed on westbound Route 176 shortly after 3 a.m. Sunday when he lost control. The motorcycle veered off the roadway as it approached Fairfield Road and struck a light pole at the intersection, according to sheriff's police.

Thompson was thrown from the motorcycle and pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.

The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff's Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit.
