Bail set at $500K for man accused of stealing SUV in Glen Ellyn, leading cops on chase

Bail has been set at $500,000 for a Chicago man accused of stealing an SUV out of a Glen Ellyn driveway and leading police on a chase.

Kenneth Diamond, 19, of the 10500 block of South Yates, has been charged with one count of felony aggravated possession of a stolen motor vehicle, one count of felony theft, one count of felony aggravated fleeing or eluding a peace officer and one count of felony burglary to a motor vehicle.

Officers responded at 2:21 a.m. June 30, 2020, after a 2016 Lincoln MKX SUV reported stolen in Glen Ellyn, according to a news release from the DuPage County State's Attorney.

Shortly after, Wheaton police spotted the stolen Lincoln, which was closely following a dark-colored sedan, the release said. Wheaton police tried to stop the Lincoln, but both vehicles sped away.

After police punctured the Lincoln's tires, two people got out of the SUV, got into the dark-colored sedan and fled, officials said.

Authorities believe Diamond had been behind the wheel of the Lincoln. His arraignment is scheduled for May 24.
