Fox River Grove to rename municipal center for former Village President Robert Nunamaker

Fox River Grove's village hall is set to be renamed after former Village President Robert Nunamaker, who resigned from the position in March after 12 years because of personal health challenges.

Plans are underway to install letters spelling out Nunamaker's name on the south side of the building at 305 Illinois St. in Fox River Grove, according to a news release from the village Friday. The work is expected to be completed in May.

Nunamaker is credited with securing a new Metra train station facility, facilitating the construction of a public works facility, establishing the village's investment of more than $500,000 in its parks and making the village a debt-free community, according to the release.

Nunamaker also was president during Fox River Grove's centennial anniversary in 2019.

After his resignation, the village board voted to make Marc McLaughlin acting village president until Nunamaker's term ends April 30.

McLaughlin, then a trustee, was the only person who ran for the village president seat in the April municipal election.

Nunamaker served as village president since May 2009. Before that, he spent six years at McHenry County College as a science and history lecturer.

Nunamaker also worked as a vice president at Motorola, served on the Lake Forest Graduate School of Management board for 11 years, and was on the planning and economic development commission and Fox River Grove School District 3 Board.

To commemorate his resignation amid COVID-19 restrictions, several residents and trustees put up signs throughout Fox River Grove thanking Nunamaker for his service as village president. They also put the message up on electronic display boards at the Stone Hill Center, Jewel-Osco and the Metra station.
