A man from Ingleside died after being hit by a freight train early Wednesday morning near Round Lake, authorities said.

The Round Lake Fire Department and Lake County sheriff's office arrived at the tracks near Route 134 east of Harrison Avenue in Avon Township at 1:41 a.m.

Kirk Stateler, 48, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a news release from the Lake County coroner's office.

A preliminary examination indicated Stateler died due to multiple blunt-force injuries, the news release said.

The coroner's office said it is still investigating Stateler's death.
