Streamwood man charged with theft over $100,000 from Des Plaines business

A Streamwood man has been charged with failing to report transactions of more than $100,000 at a Des Plaines business, police said.

Hector Vargas, 41, of the 0-100 block of Gant Circle has been charged with theft over $100,000 between July 14, 2017, and July 18, 2019, from a business in the 200 block of Wieboldt Drive, Des Plaines Police said.

The loss prevention manager told police that during an audit, a large sum of money was unaccounted for and the investigation showed that that Vargas failed to report transactions on his hand-held device. Vargas was confronted by the company and terminated, the manager said. A short time later on July 24, 2019, the company then reported the incident to police.

Detectives conducted a follow-up investigation and arrested Vargas on March 31, police said.
