Glenview resident selected for The Daniel Burnham Fellowship

Glenview resident Stephen Harris is among the 26 C-suite and senior executives selected by Leadership Greater Chicago for the 2021 cohort of The Daniel Burnham Fellowship. The fellowship is an accelerated civic onboarding experience for top executives who, in their professional roles, play a part in shaping the future of Chicago.

Harris is president of Medicaid and Government Business Enablement at Health Care Service Corporation.

While beneficial to any executive, it is especially so for those who are new to Chicago and also provides a rich introduction to an executive new to their role and with market-facing responsibilities. The fellowship is designed to inspire these leaders to mobilize and exert their combined influence and intellect to positively impact Chicago, its future, and the continued economic progress of the region.

Through cross-industry learning and connections with renowned speakers and peers, The Daniel Burnham Fellowship participants leave with broadened perspectives and strategic opportunities that would otherwise remain unrealized.

"If there is anything this past year has shown us, it's that our work must continue bravely and boldly," said Leadership Greater Chicago CEO and Founding Daniel Burnham Fellow Maria Wynne.

The Daniel Burnham Fellowship - a strategic partnership incubator - engages participants in Chicago's vibrant structure of civic leaders, providing an interconnected view of the key opportunities and challenges facing the business community and region. To date, 44 executives have successfully completed the Fellowship which has resulted in collaborations for COVID-19 relief efforts (funding, public policy, food distribution), community investments, and diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.

"The Daniel Burnham Fellows are unique in that they are the decision-makers," said LGC Board Chair Connie L. Lindsey, Executive Vice President and Head of Corporate Social Responsibility and Global Diversity & Inclusion at Northern Trust. "Through this Fellowship, they are each called to urgently impact Chicago's workforce and the region's economic progress to benefit all Chicagoans, not just some Chicagoans."

On Friday, February 12, participants will begin the six-session series which includes the history of Chicago through the lens of urban planning, the region's workforce forecast, building strategic partnerships for economic development, and driving innovative solutions to build an inclusive Chicago. Ultimately, the call to action for these leaders is to drive job creation and workforce readiness and invest in the betterment of our communities, making it possible for Chicago to reach its full potential.

The Daniel Burnham Fellowship is the latest addition to a portfolio which fulfills Leadership Greater Chicago's long-standing mission to convene, connect, and mobilize the region's most promising leaders around key socioeconomic issues through dynamic education and experiences. This is the third cohort of The Daniel Burnham Fellowship, which first launched in 2019.
