Schaumburg Township, District 54 host vaccination clinic

Schaumburg Township and Schaumburg Township Elementary District 54 worked with Jewel-Osco to host a 1B COVID-19 vaccination clinic Friday that served nearly 1,100 older adults and school district staff.

The event was held at District 54's Rafferty Administration Building. The more than 300 seniors who were registered included 111 residents of the Emerald Village and Poplar Creek Senior Living communities.

Township officials said these facilities were focused on because their residents didn't have access to in-building vaccinations that other senior housing communities in area did. Many of the participants also had issues with mobility, transportation, access to technology, and language barriers - including members of the deaf and hard of hearing communities.

"Our collaborative effort with Jewel-Osco and District 54 offered a local option for some of the most vulnerable in our community," Schaumburg Township Supervisor Tim Heneghan said in a statement. "I'm beyond proud of the work the township did for this event and hope to do more vaccination events in the future."

Schaumburg Township also provided low-cost, two-way trips for 45 residents Friday. These residents also will have access to such transportation on the day their second doses are delivered.

Terri McHugh, District 54's community relations executive director said, "District 54 is so grateful for the opportunity provided by Jewel-Osco to partner with the Township of Schaumburg to host this clinic for our staff and senior citizens of our community."
