Farnum stepping down as Algonquin community development director

After 13 years of serving as Algonquin's community development director, Russ Farnum is stepping down at the end of February to become the city administrator in Monticello, Iowa.

Farnum, who previously worked in DeKalb and Galena, steered several village projects including residential developments at Riverside Plaza, Glenloch, Grand Reserve and Creeks Crossing. He also oversaw the addition of Aldi, CarMax and many other retail developments.

"Algonquin has a history of planning for the best quality development in the Fox Valley," Farnum said in a statement. "I believe our accomplishments in planning and development serve as a model and will benefit the village for decades to come. I have been supported by a great staff and village board in Algonquin who will continue to move the community forward."

Mike Darrow has been named interim community development director. Information regarding the recruitment for the next community development director can be found at www.algonquin.org/CDDirector.

"Russ has been a tireless advocate for Algonquin and our business community," acting Village President Debby Sosine said in a statement. "We're grateful for his many contributions to our organization and community."
