Second teen arrested in Addison carjacking

A second teenager from Chicago has been charged with carjacking a woman Jan. 23 in Addison.

The 15-year-old boy was arrested Sunday, authorities said.

DuPage County Judge Brian Jacobs on Monday ordered that the teen, who is charged with aggravated vehicular hijacking, remain in custody until his next court appearance. The boy is due back in court Feb. 17.

Authorities say that about 10:46 p.m. Jan. 23, a 20-year-old woman left a Popeyes restaurant on Lake Street and was accosted as she walked to her car by three people, two of whom were armed. The trio told her to give up her car, cash and cellphone or they would kill her.

A nearby patrol officer chased the vehicle, and with the help of an Illinois State Police helicopter search team, it was followed to the South Side of Chicago. A 17-year-old boy was arrested there.

That boy is due back in court Feb. 8. Prosecutors have asked that he be tried as an adult.

The third suspect remains at large.

"I would like to thank the Chicago Police Department for their assistance on this case, which ultimately led to the apprehension of the second suspect," DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin said in a news release. "The cooperative efforts exhibited by not only the Chicago Police Department but the Illinois State Police and the Addison Police Department sends the message that in DuPage County we will work with our law enforcement partners throughout Illinois to bring to justice anyone accused of violent crime, such as alleged in this case."
