Glenbrook North student Joe Klein earned a silver medal in the Junior Men's Competition at the 2021 U.S. Figure Skating Championships in Las Vegas on Jan. 21. A product of the Northbrook Sports Center and representing the Skokie Valley Skating Club, the 16-year-old scored Level 4's on each of his three spins in his free skate to register a personal-best 123.70 points in that event. Klein finished second in the free skate, moving up from fourth place after Wednesday's short program to place second with another personal best of 187.30 points, behind gold medalist Eric Prober, 18, of Florida. Already a veteran competitor, Klein was the U.S. novice pewter medalist in 2019 and the novice champion in the 2020 Midwestern Sectional Final.
