Schaumburg police are investigating a minor physical confrontation Sunday between pro-Trump and anti-Trump demonstrators who have been gathering peacefully since last year on opposite sides of a busy village intersection.

The altercation at about 2:20 p.m. Sunday involved a member of the pro-Trump group crossing from the northwest corner of Golf and Meacham roads to confront someone in the anti-Trump group on the northeast corner, Schaumburg Police Chief Bill Wolf said.

When someone in the anti-Trump group took out a phone to record the confrontation, the pro-Trump demonstrator slapped it out of the person's hand, Wolf said.

Officers already on the scene to keep the peace made sure everyone returned to their respective corners. The entire exchange lasted about two minutes, Wolf added.

The only previous incident involved someone from the anti-Trump group throwing eggs toward the opposite corner, Wolf said. He characterized the instigators of both events as outliers rather than representative of either group as a whole.
