Lake in the Hills man accidentally shoots self

Police will not bring charges against a 30-year-old Lake in the Hills man who accidentally shot himself while cleaning his gun on Saturday afternoon, a Lake in the Hills Police Department spokeswoman said Wednesday.

Officers responded to the 4400 block of Barharbor Drive in Lake in the Hills at 2:46 p.m. Saturday for a report of a gunshot victim, Lake in the Hills police Communications Coordinator Ashley Eccles said.

They arrived to find that a 30-year-old man had accidentally shot himself in the hand while he was cleaning his gun at his home, Eccles said.

He was taken to Northwestern Medicine's Huntley hospital with the help of the Huntley Fire Protection District, she said. Paramedics from the fire protection district determined that his injuries were not life-threatening.

"When the officers arrived and investigated the situation, it was clear that there was no evidence of a crime," Eccles said.
