Fox Lake school holds drive-through Santa breakfast

Santa and more than 30 of his helpers from Fox Lake Grade School District 114 braved the cold, wet weather Saturday to spread holiday cheer.

A steady mist of rain trying to become snow flurried around a constant stream of cars at Lotus Elementary School during the drive-through Santa's Breakfast for the community.

The teachers, who were wearing brightly-colored Christmas outfits, danced and waved enthusiastically to their students as festive music played over loudspeakers.

The district traditionally holds a big community breakfast with Santa event but had to change it up this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

"We miss our students so much so this is just kind of a tiny thing that we can do, and we're just so happy to do it," said fourth-grade Lotus Elementary teacher Kally Kibitlewski. "It wouldn't matter if it was pouring rain, we'd still be out here to be back in person. ... It's just so good to be able to see them and see their smiles."
