Drug-induced homicide charge dropped in Downers Grove death

A Maywood man is no longer being prosecuted on a charge of drug-related homicide for the 2018 death of a Downers Grove man.

DuPage County court records indicate prosecutors withdrew their case against Gregory Jones on Nov. 17.

Authorities alleged Jones had sold 21-year-old Alexander Zabinski the heroin on which he overdosed Dec. 21, 2018.

On Oct. 29, DuPage County Judge Jeffrey MacKay had ruled in favor of Jones' motion to suppress evidence police had collected because Jones' arrest was illegal.

Jones was freed from jail on Nov. 17. He had been held there on $750,000 bail since his arrest in March 2019.
