Warrenville chiropractor pleads guilty to battery; sex charges dropped
A Warrenville chiropractor who had been charged with sexually abusing and sexually assaulting several patients while treating them pleaded guilty Monday to aggravated battery in a public place.
In exchange, the state attorney general's office dropped prosecution on the 18 sexual abuse and sexual assault counts, according to DuPage County court records.
Terry J. Smith, 45, of the 2S200 block of Route 59, was placed on 30 months probation and has agreed to give up his chiropractic license.
The complainants were females. One was older than 13, but younger than 18. The incidents were alleged to have taken place at his office in Darien.
Smith was charged in August 2019 and remained free on bail while awaiting trial.
He has had a chiropractic license in Illinois since September 2001. The Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation suspended the license temporarily in September 2019 "for engaging in sexual misconduct in his practice," according to the IDFPR's website.
The aggravated battery in a public place charge was not part of the original charges. The attorney general's office could not be reached for comment last week or Monday.
