Three arrested after drug bust and police chase near Woodstock

Sheriff's deputies arrested three people on narcotics charges after a police chase in the Wonder Lake area Thursday afternoon.

Norman Brown, 32, of Chicago, Destiny Hall, 19, of Freeport, and William Benson, 40, of Chicago, were taken into custody after a vehicle chase, according to a news release from the McHenry County sheriff's office.

Deputies were conducting a narcotics investigation about 2:03 p.m. when they initiated a traffic stop on a 2003 Chrysler minivan, the release said. Hall was driving the vehicle and pulled over. Deputies asked Hall to step out of the vehicle and Brown, who was a passenger, hopped into the driver's seat and sped away with Benson, another passenger.

Authorities chased the Chrysler west to rural Woodstock, according to the release. As the Chrysler headed back toward town, the deputies stopped pursuing the van and established a perimeter with the help of the Woodstock Police Department and McHenry County Conservation Police. Shortly after, they located the van, which had stopped on the south side of Woodstock near the intersection of Route 47 and Route 14, the release said. Brown had run away and Benson was still in the van, authorities said.

Deputies found Brown, who was hiding in an abandoned mobile home, after getting information from witnesses who'd seen Brown run, the release said. Brown surrendered and was taken into custody.

Brown, Benson and Hall were arrested and taken to the sheriff's office, where they were charged. Authorities recovered 45.5 grams of cannabis, seven hydrocodone pills and 30 dextroamphetame pills, the release said.

Brown also hit a parked car with the minivan during the incident, authorities said.

The bond is to be determined. Brown, Hall and Benson will appear in court Friday.
