Glenview's Hero Hustle goes virtual this year to benefit local nonprofits
The Rotary Club of Glenview Sunrise, Glenview Firefighters No. 4186 and Glenview Police present a challenge to all those who enjoy a walk in the park, a workout on the treadmill or stair stepper, or a strenuous run. This year's Hero Hustle is a step challenge, taking place over 9 days - Sept. 12-20 - and will fill the bill for all of these options.
The race has been re-imagined to keep everyone safe. Participants can design their own event, accumulating steps with an app synced to their smart device to compete against others. Several courses will be designated throughout the community, or runners can choose their own course.
Other fun aspects of the race include bonus steps to be claimed at specific locations in the community, and a Glenview Sunrise Instagram page for steppers to show off their selfies. A prize will be awarded for the most steps, with additional prizes in other categories.
"We are pleased to be able offer the Hero Hustle in this new format," race organizer Mary Bak said. "We hope the race encourages physical fitness in a fun and interesting way, and provides a connection to the community that many people are looking for at the moment."
Each year, causes near and dear to Glenview and surrounding communities receive more than $30,000 in donations from the Hero Hustle, including the Northfield Food Pantry, Glenview Youth Services and Glenview Public Library. Details and registration are available online at HeroHustle.com.
