New York man charged in fatal I-94 crash

Josue A. Noboa, a 22-year-old from New York City, was arrested and charged on Monday with two counts of leaving the scene of a fatal crash and reckless homicide in Northbrook by Illinois State Police.

ISP District 15 troopers responded April 21 to the scene of a crash on eastbound Interstate 94 near Half Day Road involving two commercial motor vehicles and a 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee.

According to authorities, the driver of the Jeep, 30-year-old Christopher A. Lopez, sideswiped the first vehicle, lost control and struck the second vehicle. Lopez and his 29-year-old front-seat passenger, Roberta S. Harris of Chicago, died of injuries sustained in the crash.

After an investigation into reports that Lopez and Noboa had possibly been drag racing prior to the crash, an arrest warrant was issued Monday for Noboa. Illinois State Police with assistance from the Northbrook Police Department took him into custody Monday night.

Noboa's bond was set at $1,000,000. He remains in custody at Lake County Sheriff's Adult Corrections Facility.
