Officials: Glenview's Flick pool will remain closed through Monday

The Glenview Park District's Flick Aquatic Center closed temporarily Thursday after two lifeguards were diagnosed with COVID-19, officials said.

The facility will remain closed through Monday, July 13, and the closure could be extended, according to a park district news release. A deep cleaning and disinfecting of the facility was completed on Friday, and there will be and update about the closure Monday.

Park district officials say that, based upon information they have reviewed, they do not believe the lifeguards had close contact with the public as defined by the Centers for Disease Control Prevention guidelines. Both lifeguards reported having contact with someone outside of work who had a positive COVID-19 test, the release said.

The park district identified a few staff members who had close contact with the two employees before they exhibited any symptoms, according to a news release Friday evening. They all have been asked to self-quarantine for at least two weeks from the date of exposure.

Out of an abundance of caution, many staff members who did not have close contact have gotten tests. Park district policy requires any staff member tested for the virus to stay home from work until a negative result has been confirmed. Many staff members have test results pending, so the aquatic center will remain closed until results are in and the park district can ensure adequate staffing levels.

The first lifeguard worked 5:30 to 10:30 a.m. July 1 and 3:30 to 7:45 p.m. July 6 and spent the majority of the shifts in the lifeguard chair. The second lifeguard worked June 30 and July 7 during in-service shifts, while the pool was closed to the public. Due to confidentiality laws, the park district isn't publicly identifying the employees.

The park district said it is working with the CDC and Illinois Department of Public Health for guidance.

Earlier this week, Whiskey River Bar & Grill in Glenview posted on Facebook that a customer there had tested positive for COVID-19 July 6 and had last been in the bar July 2. According to the post, all employees working July 2 were tested for the virus; it also outlined precautions Whiskey River is taking to prevent any spread of the virus.
