Road, stormwater improvements among Glenview's capital improvements

Road work in Glenview will be easy to come by as the construction season continues.

The village this year is spending millions of dollars on capital projects, including road reconstruction, pavement resurfacing and stormwater improvements. Here's a look at some of the projects that are slated to begin or already have begun:

The Glenview Village Board on June 16 agreed to hire Arrow Road Construction Co. for the 2020 road resurfacing and minor area repair strategy program. As part of the contract, Elk Grove Village-based company will be paid an amount not to exceed $2.75 million.

The project includes resurfacing roughly five miles of roads throughout the village. Work is expected to begin in July and be completed in November.

Village officials say work is expected to start this month on the Longvalley Road/Woodland Drive reconstruction project.

The roughly $3.09 million project will make improvements to Longvalley, from Woodland to a cul-de-sac to the west, and Woodland, from Central Road to Coronet Road. It will include water main replacement, storm sewer system upgrades, sanitary sewer repairs and construction of a new asphalt roadway.

Construction is expected to be completed at the end of October.

A project slated to start next month is the reconstruction of Longvalley Road, from Harlem to Lehigh avenues.

The roughly $1.25 million project includes replacing old 6-inch cast iron water mains with 12-inch PVC water main pipe, improving the existing stormwater system. repairing the sanitary sewer, and constructing a new roadway.

The work is expected to wrap up by mid-November.

Another project expected to start this month is the reconstruction of Greenbriar Drive, from Greenwood Road to Lotus Lane.

The $2.1 million project includes the installation of an 8-inch PVC water main, the installation of a 12- to 24-inch storm sewer, sanitary pipe repairs and pavement improvements.

Meanwhile, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is overseeing construction of storm sewer improvements in the Glen Oak Acres neighborhood.

As part of the $1.9 million project, a construction company will install a reinforced concrete storm sewer along Wagner Road, from Huckleberry Lane to Del Ogier Drive. In addition, a new storm sewer will be constructed along Del Ogier, from Wagner Road to the existing outfall to the North Branch of the Chicago River.

Adriana Webb, Glenview's engineering division manager, said the project will help alleviate flooding in the area. The neighborhood originally was built without storm sewers.

The project is expected to be completed in October.
