An employee leaving the Liquor Barn in Wheeling early Thursday evening was robbed of his wallet while walking to his car.

Wheeling Police Deputy Chief Joseph Licari said a car pulled up in the back of the store at the corner of Milwaukee Avenue and Dundee Road.

"A guy jumped out, asked for the employee's wallet and punched him," Licari said. "At the same time, the employee saw what he thought was a handgun in the suspect's waist. But he was never threatened with the handgun."

There was no description of the robber, who was wearing a mask.

Licari said the investigation is ongoing.
