Batavia Park District cancels Windmill festival
Batavia's popular Windmill City Festival has been canceled amid uncertainty over the coronavirus pandemic, but park district officials say they are planning other "safe, positive experiences" in the coming months.
The festival, held annually in mid-July, has been a community staple for decades. It typically features live music, food vendors, a craft and vintage market, a talent show, bags tournament and other family-friendly activities.
The Batavia Park District announced the move this week, saying, "The safety and health of staff and patrons is of the utmost importance and a determining factor for the future of many events."
The 2020 River Rhapsody Concert Series, scheduled for Wednesday evenings, also will not be held this year.
Park district officials are modifying summer events and programs that comply with social distancing guidelines, such as drive-in summer movies, virtual meetings of the Batavia Senior Citizens Club, and online Youth Variety programs and All Star Sports classes.
A virtual recreation center, found at bataviaparks.org, offers Kids' Corner activities, fitness and yoga classes, and active adult socializing.
