Dist. 214 superintendent: Student likely died due to COVID-19 complications

In an email sent to parents and guardians on Saturday, Arlington Heights-based District 214 Superintendent Dr. David Schuler delivered tragic news.

A District 214 student died this week “likely due to complications related to COVID-19,” the email said.

“In addition, we currently have at least one additional student who is in the (intensive care unit) due to COVID-19,” it continued.

“(T)his is a dark week in District 214 that leaves me with an incredibly heavy heart,” Schuler wrote in the email.

Dave Beery, interim communications supervisor of District 214, agreed.

“It's a very difficult time for the district, and for all of us,” Beery said. “We're all hearing these tragic stories every day, and this hits so close to home.”

District 214 includes Buffalo Grove, Elk Grove, Hersey, Prospect, Rolling Meadows and Wheeling high schools, as well as Newcomer Center, Academy at Forest View and Vanguard School.
