West Dundee residents vote to dissolve fire district

Voters overwhelmingly approved the dissolution of the West Dundee Fire Protection District and its consolidation into the Rutland Dundee Fire Protection District, a neighboring entity.

The West Dundee fire district, which is separate from the village's fire services, covers a group of about 30 luxury houses off Frontenac Drive and Boncosky Road, just west of Route 31.

With the sole precinct reporting, unofficial results show 30 votes in favor of consolidation and three against.

As a taxing body that exists only on paper, the West Dundee Fire Protection District does not operate a fire station or pay firefighters. Instead, it has been contracting fire and ambulance services for years from the Rutland-Dundee Fire Protection District.

Voters' approval to consolidate the district won't impact services provided to those residents from an operational standpoint. The taxing body will be abolished, and Rutland-Dundee will officially incorporate those properties into its district.
