I-290 crash Thursday afternoon closes two left lanes

The driver of a brown GMC vehicle was hospitalized early Thursday afternoon after a two-vehicle crash on westbound Interstate 290.

The driver was traveling on I-290 south of Higgins Road about 1:28 p.m. Thursday when the GMC began to swerve for an unknown reason, according to a spokeswoman for the Illinois State Police. It first struck a white Ford, then the left median wall, the spokeswoman said.

The driver of the Ford was not injured. No additional information was available on the injured driver. There were no other passengers in the vehicles, according to police.

The two left lanes were closed for about an hour, the spokeswoman said. The lanes reopened about 2:27 p.m.
