Pets rescued, but home uninhabitable after Spring Grove fire

A deck fire has left a Spring Grove home uninhabitable due to significant smoke damage Tuesday night, officials said.

The fire, which was first reported to the Fox Lake Fire Department at 4:58 p.m., was in the 38200 block of N. 5th Avenue. Shortly after arrival, first responders successfully rescued a dog and four birds from the home, and within minutes controlled the blaze without injuries to residents or firefighters.

Due to smoke damage and shutting down of the home's power, officials deemed the home uninhabitable. The cause of the fire is yet to be determined.
