Winter weather postpones demolition of AJ Freund home

The planned demolition of the Crystal Lake house where authorities say 5-year old AJ Freund was killed by his parents has been delayed.

Work to tear down the vacant home of Andrew Freund and JoAnn Cunningham at 94 Dole Ave., tentatively had been scheduled for Friday and Saturday.

But city officials about midday Thursday were told by Green Demolition Contractors Inc. of Chicago that the winter storm in the city had put the company behind on their scheduling and there was a need to find clean fill.

Green Demolition hopes to do the work next week, but has to confirm with subcontractors, according to the city.

The house has been vacant since April 24, when Freund Sr. and Cunningham were arrested in their son's beating death.

Crystal Lake inspectors noted 41 code violations and were granted court approval to have it torn down after suing Freund Sr., Cunningham and others with ties to the property.
