Crystal Lake man charged with attempted murder in stabbing

A Crystal Lake man stabbed a 29-year-old man who was helicoptered to a hospital Thursday, the McHenry County sheriff's office said Friday.

Michael Vrba, 35, is charged with attempted first degree murder, home invasion, residential burglary, aggravated domestic battery and aggravated battery.

The victim, also from Crystal Lake, was discovered with knife wounds by sheriff's deputies shortly after they were called to the scene in the 6000 block of Acorn Court about 6:22 a.m. The victim remains in serious but stable condition at Advocate Condell Hospital in Libertyville, according to the sheriff's office.

An investigation by the McHenry County Criminal Investigation Division led authorities to Vrba, a former household member of the victim.

He is being held on $1 million bond and is scheduled to appear in court Saturday morning at 8 a.m.

The sheriff's office is continuing to investigate. Anyone with information should contact the McHenry County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigation Division at 815-334-4750.
