Harper to host Chicago-area premier of film on Sikh's founder

Harper College in Palatine will be the venue for the Chicago-area premier of a documentary on the founder of the Sikh religion.

"Guru Nanak: The Founder of Sikhism - Life and Legacy" will be the centerpiece of the free event running from 1 to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, at the college's Wojcik Conference Center in Building W.

Organizers said the documentary coincided with last year's celebration of the 550th birthday of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, who founded the world's fifth largest religion. They said little seems to be known about Guru Nanak in the United States and the Western world.

Saturday's event will start with a reception, followed by the documentary screening. Filmmakers Gerald and Adam Krell, who will be part of a panel discussion after the screening, produced the documentary in India, Pakistan and the United States.

Palatine is home to the Sikh Religious Society. A large contingent of local Sikhs and guests from across the country are expected to attend Saturday at Harper.
