9 years in prison for Crystal Lake overdose that killed woman

A Crystal Lake man was sentenced to nine years in prison Wednesday for providing a dose of fentanyl-laced heroin that killed a woman in March, according to court records.

Jeffrey J. Hauck, 33, of the 200 block of Uteg Street, faced six to 30 years in prison for drug-induced homicide after his conviction in September in a bench trial before McHenry County Judge Robert Wilbrandt.

In the trial, prosecutors argued that Hauck traveled to Chicago to buy the drugs, returned to the area and brought them to another person, who then delivered the drugs to Stephanie Phillippi, 32, who was found dead in Crystal Lake in early March.

Two others - Melissa Ohlson, 41, of Woodstock, and Kane E. Kellett, 34, of Crystal Lake - also are charged with drug-induced homicide and face up to 30 years in prison if convicted.

Ohlson, who is free on bail, appeared briefly in court Wednesday and is next due before a judge on Dec. 4, court records show.

Kellett is being held at the McHenry County jail on $17,500 bail and is due in court on Dec. 5.

Under state law, Hauck can have his prison term cut in half for good behavior.

He has been held at the McHenry County jail since June and gets five months credit and also must pay $915 in court costs and fines.
