3 charged in Roselle Verizon store burglary

Three people face burglary charges after authorities say they stole cellphones and tablets from a Verizon store at 1440 West Lake St. in Roselle.

Denzel Irons, 22, of the 6000 block of South Crandon, Chicago; Leo Edwards, 25, of the 2000 block of West 61st Street, Chicago; and Demyrah Nance, 19, with no known address, all are charged with burglary. Irons also has been charged with criminal damage to property, possession of burglary tools and obstruction of a police officer.

Authorities say Irons used a hammer to smash the store's front door glass to gain entry about 2:05 a.m. Tuesday and took the merchandise. The three then fled in a vehicle Nance was driving.

An investigation by Roselle police led them to the three, who were apprehended a short time later by Hanover Park police following a traffic stop. Irons and Edwards are on parole from Cook County.

"It is alleged that these three individuals, two of whom are currently on parole, traveled to DuPage County intent on committing a forceable felony," DuPage County State's Attormey Robert Berlin said in a written statement. "We will not stand idly by and allow violent crimes such as this to happen."

The next court appearances for Irons, Nance and Edwards are scheduled for Dec. 9, 10 and 11 respectively.
