Pumpkin launch Sunday in Mundelein

The Mundelein Park and Recreation District is hosting a pumpkin drop from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, at Keith Mione Community Park, 1401 N. Midlothian Road, Mundelein.

The free event is for all ages and includes pumpkin rolling races, smashing pumpkins activities and pumpkin launching by "Big Red," the trebuchet/catapult designed and built by Mundelein High School students.

From noon to 2 p.m., participants can drop off their pumpkins (no candles or decorations) at a community composting site near the sled hill.

Composting specialist Vytas Pabedinskas will talk about the science of composting and the benefit of diverting them from the trash.
