Cook County, DCFS looking into apparent accidental drowning of 2-year-old boy

Cook County Sheriff's police responded to a call in an unincorporated area near Schaumburg on Sunday, Aug. 25, for what appeared to be the accidental drowning of a 2-year-old boy from Gilberts who died four days later at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, officials said.

The call came from a home on the 1400 block of South Blackhawk Drive in unincorporated Cook County, said Cook County sheriff's office Deputy Press Secretary Matt Walberg.

The boy was pronounced dead at 10:54 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 29, at the hospital.

Illinois Department of Children and Family Services officials said they, too, had an ongoing investigation into the boy's death, but concurred with police Monday in saying it appeared to be accidental.
