Island Lake Corn Fest has visitors grinning ear to ear

They were serving up the corn by, well, yes, the bushel Sunday, as the Island Lake Lions Club played host to its 61st annual Corn Fest at Water Tower Park.

"This is our main event and our biggest event," said Joe Shambo, a Lions Club director.

In all, organizers expected to serve about 3,500 ears of corn - all of it for free - along with hot dogs and other food and beverages. The corn was donated by Stade Farm of McHenry.

Three live bands also performed during the fest, which is a fundraiser for the Lions' efforts to provide hearing aids and eyeglasses to people in need.
