Two residences damaged by fires in Fox Lake
Two residences in Fox Lake were damaged by separate fires Sunday, authorities said.
Firefighters had to cut open a section of wall about four feet high and eight feet long while responding to a call at about 4:55 p.m. about a fire on the 0-100 block of East Grand Avenue, Fox Lake Fire Protection District Battalion Chief Brent Connelly said.
The area has commercial units in front and residential units in the back, he said.
The fire started in a storage/utility room in the residential area; one dwelling suffered fire damage and another smoke damage, he said.
A residence on the 7300 block of Dunwood Court in the Leisure Village retirement community was rendered uninhabitable after a fire in the attic, Connelly said.
Firefighters responded to a call at about 6:47 p.m. after residents saw smoke coming through a bathroom ceiling vent, he said.
Crews entered the attic to fight the fire and also had to break through the ceiling of two bedrooms and a hallway, he said.
No one was injured and the cause of both fires remains under investigation, he said.
