Bluesmobile Cruise Nights kick off May 25 in downtown Mount Prospect

The Mount Prospect Lions Club's first Bluesmobile Cruise Night of 2019 will take place May 25 in the east Metra commuter lot at the southeast corner of Emerson Street and Northwest Highway in downtown Mount Prospect. This year promises more high-quality classic cars, food vendors, radio station giveaways, raffles and music.

The a must-see event runs 3-9 p.m. every Saturday through Sept. 28. The cruise night planned for May 18 was canceled due to the weather.

On July 13, the Mount Prospect Lions Club is happy to host the Illinois Region Model A Restorers Club. The Ford Model A (also colloquially called the A-Model Ford, the A or A-bone among hot-rodders and customizers) was the second successful vehicle model for the Ford Motor Co., after its predecessor, the Model T.

First produced on Oct. 20, 1927, but not introduced until Dec. 2, it replaced the venerable Model T, which had been produced for 18 years. This new Model A was designated as the 1928 model and was available in four standard colors. By Feb. 4, 1929, 1 million Model As had been sold, and by July 24, 2 million. The range of body styles ran from the Tudor at $500 (in gray, green or black) to the Town Car with a dual cowl at $1,200. In March 1930, Model A sales hit 3 million, and there were nine body styles available. This will be a great evening in Mount Prospect.

Other fantastic nights featuring car clubs will be June 1 (Ford Night) when two clubs will join the fray — the Stallion Gate Ford & Mustang Club and the Early Ford V-8 Club. The Crusin' Tigers Pontiac Club will arrive on July 20. And the biggest night of the year is the arrival of the Classic Thunderbird Club of Chicagoland on July 27.

Sept. 7 will be the Northern Illinois Volkswagen Association night. One night also will be devoted to a Bluesmobile Reunion, with details to be announced later.

Throughout its long history, the Mount Prospect Lions Club has raised money through fun community events to benefit local and sight-related charities. Visit www.mplions.org for details.
