Stevenson High honors state champs in two sports

Stevenson High School honored state-title winning athletes from two sports on Tuesday.

The girls water polo team won its third consecutive Illinois High School Association championship, while Jenny Yang and Emily Hu won the state badminton doubles title.

The athletes were feted before classes started for the day at the Lincolnshire school. Parents and coaches gathered, and coffee and doughnuts were served.

The water polo team defeated Naperville North on Saturday to win its title, capping a perfect season. It's the team's fourth crown in the last five years.

Hu and Yang won their second straight state doubles championship May 11, finishing the season with a 42-0 record. Hu and Yang are the first duo in Stevenson history to win two state championships.

Stevenson's badminton team finished second this year, after state titles the two previous seasons.
