Mount Prospect hires new finance director

Amit Thakkar has been appointed Mount Prospect's new director of finance, village officials announced Thursday.

Thakkar has served in the same role for the village of Bensenville since 2013. Set to begin his new job May 20, he replaces longtime finance leader David Erb, who recently stepped down to take a similar job in the Dallas suburb of Lewisville, Texas.

Village Manager Michael Cassady said Thakkar was chosen after officials interviewed several qualified candidates.

"The interview team felt Amit's financial and operational experience would allow him to add value to the organization immediately," said Cassady, who also came to Mount Prospect from Bensenville. "His open and honest approach to leading the Finance Department will be in alignment with the culture of our organization."

Thakkar is a CPA and holds both bachelor's and master's equivalent degrees in accounting/auditing. He's also held positions with Buffalo Grove and Fort Wayne, Indiana.
