Bunny ears the fashion at Bunny Rock run in Vernon Hills

Bunny ears were the fashion statement for runners as the first Bunny Rock Hawthorn Mall 5k kicked off Saturday in Vernon Hills.

The Easter bunny was on haNd for pictures and there was a petting zoo and an Easter egg hunt for kids.

"We are trying to find a fun way to enjoy Easter and start off a Saturday in a healthy way," said Executive Race Director Aaron Del Mar of Adrenalin Sports Management.

About 300 runners participated in the event, which started outside Dave and Buster's at Hawthorn Mall.

Some of the proceeds went to benefit Reach Rescue animal rescue (www.reachrescue.org) in Mundelein.
