Vernon Hills 18-year-old charged with mistreating dogs

Vernon Hills police charged an 18-year-old man with violating animal owner's duties after they found 10 dogs at a home on the 1000 block of Pine Grove Court Saturday.

Police used a search warrant to enter the home on March 9. They entered seeking to arrest Simon Sehter, 20. Simon Sehter was later charged with several drug charges.

According to a Vernon Hills police news release issued Tuesday afternoon, when officers entered the home, they detected a strong odor of urine and saw animal feces throughout the building.

Lake County animal control was contacted and took custody of all 10 dogs found in the house. An inspector from the Vernon Hills Building Department also responded and tagged the house, judging it to be uninhabitable.

Police announced Tuesday that they'd charged Antony Sehter, 18, who also lives at the house, with four counts of animal owner's duties violation.

Also, the younger Sehter was charged with unlawful possession of a title without complete assignment because of a vehicle in the garage police saw during their search. He was out on bail after paying $3,000.

Vernon Hills police did not immediately return calls for comment about if Simon and Antony Sehter are related.

Antony Sehter is due back in court on April 1.
