Mount Prospect police: Report of student with gun was a hoax

A Prospect High School student who claimed he had a gun - but didn't - has been charged with disorderly conduct under a Mount Prospect village ordinance, officials said.

Mount Prospect police were called to Main Street and Kensington Road around 3:30 p.m. Friday after a school bus driver heard a 17-year-old boy say he had a firearm, according to a department news release. Officers had all the students leave the bus, which was then searched; they also searched all bags and backpacks. No guns were found, and the claim was determined to be a hoax, police said.

Parents were notified of what happened through the school, police said.
